Teacher philosophy
The pupil is at the heart of my teaching approach. My role is to find the best music, teaching strategy or game to support the individual pupil to grow. Wherever we end up or how far we go, I hope to have instilled a love of music.
I’m inspired by the Kodály Method and wish to nurture musicians not just by-products of an exam system. This is particularly the case for my young beginners. This is why I love teaching Colourstrings or using doremi resources, as both of these book series are Kodály based.
I love seeing the progress of a pupil however miniscule the steps. Practice is the key which is why I try to make my lessons engaging and motivating. With warmth and humour I hope to guide my pupils on a lifetime musical journey.

Teacher experience
I have over 15 years cello teaching experience. I started by teaching a fellow student while at university. Since then I have taught through music services and privately. Lessons have been 1:1, in pairs and groups up to a whole class of 30 cellists! Many of my students have been beginners but I’ve also taught all levels up to grade 8. As well as children, I’ve taught several adult learners either regularly or an a more ad hoc basis.
I’ve also been a classroom teacher for over 10 years. I initially started in Early Years but then became a music specialist, teaching class music lessons to all primary school year groups. I currently teach at a Pre-Prep with children aged 2 to 7.
I’ve been a piano teacher since 2014. I’ve taught in school as well as from my home, individual and paired lessons. I am particularly experienced at teaching beginner pianists and tend to hand pupils onto another teacher once they reach Grade 1.

Background
Starting to play the cello from age seven, I gained Grade 8 with distinction at fifteen. I played an active role as a music scholar in school – performing in Devon, London and touring to Boston, US. I was a member of the Devon County Youth Orchestra and Oxford University Orchestras. Later, I gained Grade 8 on the piano and now enjoy accompanying friends and family. My love of chamber music began at university, where I formed a string quartet. After graduating I joined Brent Symphony Orchestra and then formed the Hugo String Quartet in North London. Since becoming a mum, I’ve renewed my interest in Early Years music education.
